چکیده
Belize maintains the largest proportion of Endangered Antillean manatee Trichechus manatus population in its range, but tourism and boat traffic have increased substantially over past 3 decades. We utilized 25 yr stranding data (1995-2019), 6 aerial surveys (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2014), 2 decades registration to examine: (1) spatial patterns incidence risk watercraft collision; (2) temporal strandings registered watercraft; (3) relationship between attributed collision numbers. The number significantly time, from 1-4 -1 late 1990s early 2000s 10-17 2010s. per across space time with boats. Strandings were greater areas high traffic, human density, mangrove habitats, particularly City Placencia. These results highlight need reduce threat collisions conserve this subspecies Belize. Conservation efforts should focus on reducing boats their speed within zones use mortality due collisions, including establishing additional non-motorized vessel areas, restricted access, reduced zones.

Blood Chemistry of Antillean Manatees (Trichechus manatus manatus): Age Variations
The Antillean manatee (Trichechus manatus manatus) is the most endangered aquatic mammal in Brazil. Sampling blood data from such critically endangered marine mammal species is extremely challenging. Although several hematological studies have been developed for captive manatees, captivity studies addressing the environmental and physiological effects on blood values are scarce. The present wor...

The nearshore coastal areas of Belize and of Chetumal Bay, Mexico, support one of the largest populations of manatees (Trichechus manatus manatus) in the Caribbean. In order to further document the distribution, relative abundance, habitat associations, and status of this population, we conducted three aerial surveys. The ̄ights were done in January 1994, May 1994, and January 1995. Total manat...

Necropsies were conducted on 4 Antillean manatees Trichechus manatus manatus that were stranded in single events on the coastal beaches of Puerto Rico from August 2010 to August 2011. Three manatees were emaciated and the gastrointestinal tracts were devoid of digesta. Microscopically, all manatees had severe widespread inflammatory lesions of the gastrointestinal tract and heart with intralesi...
